1. Agreement and eligibility
These Terms of Use, Acceptable Use Policy, and End User License Agreement (“Terms”) are a binding agreement between you and PetRoot Ltd (“PetRoot,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). They govern the PetRoot applications for iOS and Android, our websites, content, subscriptions, and related services together called the “Services.”
By creating an account, accepting these Terms, purchasing PetRoot Plus, or using the Services, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Services.
You must be at least 13 years old to use the Services. If you are under the age of legal majority where you live, you may use the Services only with the permission and supervision of a parent or legal guardian who agrees to these Terms on your behalf. You may use the Services only in the United States for personal, noncommercial purposes unless we agree otherwise in writing.
2. Educational use and emergencies
PetRoot provides educational product information, product records, a proprietary PetRoot Score, pet-profile comparisons called Pet Fit, product search and scanning, user reviews, retailer links, and an AI-assisted educational feature called Ask Spot. Features, evidence, coverage, and availability vary by product, formulation, location, and time.
PetRoot and Ask Spot do not practice veterinary medicine, establish a veterinarian-client-patient relationship, examine your pet, diagnose or treat a condition, prescribe, or replace product labels, recall notices, a veterinarian, poison control, or emergency care.
Do not start, stop, or change a diet, medication, supplement, pesticide, grooming product, or course of care solely because of PetRoot. Contact a veterinarian before making a material care decision, particularly for a young, pregnant, nursing, senior, medically complex, symptomatic, or medicated pet.
Product labels, recalls, and reactions
Manufacturers may change ingredients, formulations, packaging, warnings, serving instructions, or availability without notifying PetRoot. Always confirm the exact package, ingredient list, instructions, warnings, lot or date information, and recall status before purchase or use.
PetRoot does not manufacture, sell, store, prescribe, test, warrant, or control third-party products. A favorable score or Pet Fit explanation does not mean a product is safe, effective, appropriate, nonallergenic, contaminant-free, correctly manufactured, or free of adverse reactions.
3. PetRoot Score, Pet Fit, and Ask Spot
The PetRoot Score
The PetRoot Score is PetRoot’s editorial opinion produced under a category-specific method from the product facts, sources, assumptions, caps, exclusions, and evidence available at the evaluation date. The score band describes the result of that method, not an objective guarantee about a product’s intrinsic safety, quality, efficacy, or suitability for every pet.
- Scores are comparative within the relevant category and method version.
- A score can change when evidence, formulation, method, safety information, or review integrity changes.
- Missing or low-confidence information may lower confidence, cap a score, produce an insufficient-data result, or place a score on hold.
- Published reviews may contribute only as disclosed by the method. Unless expressly labeled “verified purchase,” PetRoot does not claim a review is tied to a verified purchase.
- Affiliate compensation, retailer priority, payout, and click data do not influence the score or Pet Fit result.
Submit a factual correction with supporting evidence to support@petroot.app. PetRoot may hold or annotate a score while investigating a credible factual, formulation, unit, safety, manipulation, or provenance issue. PetRoot controls editorial weighting and opinion but will correct confirmed factual errors.
Pet Fit
Pet Fit compares product facts and PetRoot rules with the pet profile you choose to save. It is an educational and incomplete compatibility explanation, not a medical evaluation, prescription, or representation that a product will or will not cause a reaction.
Ask Spot
Ask Spot uses automated systems and retrieved PetRoot context to generate responses. Output can be inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, or inappropriate. Do not treat it as a product fact unless the underlying source is shown, as professional advice, or as emergency guidance. PetRoot may limit, refuse, annotate, review, or retain interactions for safety, integrity, quality, and enforcement as described in the Privacy Policy.
4. Accounts, security, and deletion
Provide accurate account information, keep credentials and devices secure, and notify security@petroot.app if you suspect unauthorized use. You are responsible for activity under your account unless law provides otherwise.
You may request account deletion by emailing privacy@petroot.app with the subject “Account deletion.” PetRoot may retain limited records where permitted for security, fraud prevention, transactions, backups, legal compliance, or claims, as described in the Privacy Policy.
Deleting PetRoot or your PetRoot account does not automatically cancel an App Store or Google Play subscription. Revoking a linked sign-in credential is also a separate action.
5. PetRoot Plus subscriptions
PetRoot Plus may be offered as an automatically renewing monthly or annual subscription at the price and period shown on the App Store or Google Play purchase screen.
- Payment is charged to your Apple Account or Google Play account after confirmation.
- The subscription renews automatically for the same period at the then-disclosed price unless you cancel through the applicable store before renewal.
- Manage or cancel through Apple subscription settings or Google Play subscriptions.
- Use Restore Purchases or the equivalent store flow to restore an eligible entitlement. Apple or Google controls billing and refunds under its rules and applicable law.
- A trial or introductory offer will disclose its duration, eligibility, post-offer price, and automatic-conversion terms before enrollment.
6. Retailers, affiliate links, and third parties
PetRoot may earn a commission when you purchase through an offer link. That compensation does not change product scores or Pet Fit. Retailer price, inventory, shipping, returns, warranties, and product claims are controlled by the retailer or manufacturer. When you leave PetRoot, the third party’s terms and privacy policy apply. PetRoot is not a party to the transaction unless we expressly say otherwise.
7. User content and reviews
“User Content” means reviews, ratings, notes, photos, reports, feedback, and other material you submit. You retain ownership of your User Content.
You grant PetRoot a worldwide, nonexclusive, royalty-free, sublicensable license to host, store, reproduce, format, analyze, moderate, publish, display, distribute, and make technical or editorial adaptations of User Content only as reasonably needed to operate, improve, and protect the Services. PetRoot will obtain separate permission before using User Content in paid advertising or as a testimonial. The license lasts until deletion from active systems, except for deidentified aggregates, limited backup copies, and records retained as legally permitted for security, disputes, or compliance.
You represent that you have the rights needed to submit the content, that a review reflects a genuine experience, that factual statements are accurate to the best of your knowledge, and that you disclosed any employment, family, ownership, payment, free product, discount, contest entry, or other material connection with the reviewed company.
PetRoot may use automated and human moderation, delay publication, request evidence, label a connection, remove content, exclude suspicious reviews from scoring, or suspend an account. We will not suppress a genuine review solely because it is negative. Hosting User Content does not mean PetRoot endorses it.
8. Acceptable Use Policy
You may not use the Services to:
- Submit fabricated, purchased, copied, misleading, impersonated, or undisclosed AI-generated reviews; coordinate review bombing; trade incentives for sentiment; or manipulate a score, ranking, report volume, or correction process.
- Make a knowingly false factual accusation; harass, threaten, dox, stalk, expose private information; or submit unlawful, defamatory, obscene, discriminatory, or exploitative content.
- Upload material you do not have permission to use, including copyrighted imagery or confidential reports, or remove ownership or provenance notices.
- Use PetRoot to diagnose, prescribe, provide emergency instructions, unlawfully practice veterinary medicine, or market unsupported health or safety claims.
- Probe, disrupt, overload, bypass, or exploit security, authentication, rate limits, entitlements, safety controls, APIs, or technical restrictions.
- Scrape, harvest, crawl, bulk download, frame, mirror, resell, or use PetRoot content, scores, or output to train or evaluate a model without written permission, except where law prohibits restriction.
- Reverse engineer the Services, create a competing database from systematic access, use malware or fraudulent identifiers, or automate access except through a written PetRoot agreement.
- Use the Services in violation of law or another person’s rights.
9. Intellectual property, product references, and feedback
The Services, PetRoot name and marks, software, design, proprietary methods, editorial content, structured compilation, and non-user data are owned by PetRoot or its licensors and protected by law. Subject to these Terms, PetRoot grants you a limited, revocable, nonexclusive, nontransferable license to use the apps and Services for personal use.
Third-party product and company names, marks, package facts, and images remain the property of their owners. PetRoot’s reference to a product is for identification, comparison, commentary, or reporting and does not imply sponsorship or endorsement.
If you believe material in the Services infringes copyright, email support@petroot.app with the subject “Copyright notice.” Identify the copyrighted work and challenged material, provide your contact information, state your good-faith belief and the accuracy of the notice and your authority under penalty of perjury, and include a physical or electronic signature.
If you send ideas or feedback, you grant PetRoot a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free right to use that feedback without restriction or compensation. This does not transfer ownership of other User Content or override the Privacy Policy.
10. Enforcement, changes, and termination
PetRoot may investigate, restrict, suspend, or terminate access; remove or hold content or a score; preserve evidence; and cooperate with lawful authorities when reasonably necessary to protect users, product integrity, PetRoot, or others. Where practicable, we will provide notice and a way to contact support. You may stop using the Services at any time.
We may change the Services or these Terms. We will provide notice of material changes as required. Changes do not retroactively rewrite an accrued dispute unless you validly agree.
11. Disclaimers, limitation of liability, and indemnity
Disclaimers
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE SERVICES ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE.” PETROOT DISCLAIMS IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, ACCURACY, AVAILABILITY, AND QUIET ENJOYMENT. PETROOT DOES NOT WARRANT THAT A PRODUCT, SCORE, PET FIT RESULT, REVIEW, SOURCE, LINK, OR ASK SPOT RESPONSE IS COMPLETE, CURRENT, ERROR-FREE, SAFE, EFFECTIVE, OR SUITABLE FOR A PARTICULAR PET. SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW CERTAIN DISCLAIMERS, SO SOME MAY NOT APPLY.
Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, PETROOT AND ITS AFFILIATES, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AND PROVIDERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR LOST PROFITS, DATA, GOODWILL, OR BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, ARISING FROM THE SERVICES OR A THIRD-PARTY PRODUCT OR TRANSACTION, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, PETROOT’S AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR CLAIMS ARISING FROM THE SERVICES WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF THE AMOUNT YOU PAID PETROOT FOR THE SERVICES IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT OR $100. THIS LIMIT DOES NOT APPLY WHERE LAW PROHIBITS IT AND DOES NOT LIMIT LIABILITY THAT CANNOT LAWFULLY BE LIMITED.
Indemnity
To the extent permitted by law, you will indemnify and hold harmless PetRoot and its affiliates, officers, employees, and providers from third-party claims arising from your unlawful use, User Content, infringement of another person’s rights, or intentional score or review manipulation. PetRoot will provide reasonable notice and may control the defense. This section does not apply where prohibited by law.
12. Informal resolution, Colorado law, and courts
Before filing a claim, you and PetRoot will send a written notice describing the dispute and requested relief to support@petroot.app and attempt in good faith to resolve it for 30 days. This does not prevent emergency relief or a filing needed to preserve a limitation period.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado, excluding conflict-of-law rules. You and PetRoot consent to jurisdiction and venue in the state and federal courts located in Colorado, except for small-claims matters and claims that cannot lawfully be restricted. These Terms do not require arbitration and do not include a class-action waiver.
13. Apple and Google Play terms
Apple
If you obtained the app through Apple, these Terms are between you and PetRoot, not Apple. PetRoot is responsible for the app, its content, maintenance, support, and claims concerning the app. The license is nontransferable and permits use on Apple-branded products you own or control as allowed by Apple’s Usage Rules.
Apple has no support obligation. If the app fails to conform to an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple may refund the purchase price, if any, as required by Apple’s minimum terms. PetRoot, not Apple, is responsible for other warranty, product-liability, legal, regulatory, consumer-protection, and intellectual-property claims.
You represent that you are not in a U.S.-embargoed country or designated as supporting terrorism and are not on a prohibited- or restricted-party list. You must comply with applicable third-party agreements. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of this Apple section and may enforce it.
Google Play
If you obtained the app through Google Play, these Terms are between you and PetRoot, not Google. PetRoot is responsible for the Android app, its content, maintenance, support, and claims concerning the app. Your license is limited to use on Android devices you own or control, subject to Google Play’s terms and applicable usage rules. Google Play controls store billing, subscription management, and refunds under its rules and applicable law.
14. General terms and contact
These Terms and incorporated policies are the entire agreement about the Services. If a provision is unenforceable, it will be enforced to the greatest lawful extent and the remainder continues. Failure to enforce is not a waiver. You may not assign these Terms without consent; PetRoot may assign them in connection with a transaction or reorganization. Sections that by nature should survive, including ownership, licenses, disclaimers, liability, disputes, and enforcement, survive termination.
